Do you know how much cardio you should be doing to lose weight?.. Last up in our mini series on cardio is the big question. How much cardio should you be doing? Let’s dive straight into the detail. ‍♀The bottom line is you should do as much cardio as you need to keep your fat loss progressing. You don’t need to do it right from the outset either (unless you want to do it for health reasons). Adding cardio when your progress stalls is a great way of keeping things moving. If you’re a guy then you could probably get to c.10% body fat without a drop of cardio. Then to get that extra push start supplementing your programme. I typically tell people to aim for 2-3 sessions per week. HIIT is normally the go to option because we’re all busy people and don’t want to spend a lifetime in the gym. But do what works for you. And pick whatever piece of equipment you like because it really doesn’t matter at the end of the day. Just get active and get moving! And even with all that said you will not see ANY weight / fat loss if you’re not in a calorie deficit (I’m definitely sounding like a cracked record now). It doesn’t matter if you do HIIT or LISS, your nutrition determines your weight / fat loss. So get that sorted! So now’s the time to get a more rounded training programme, incorporating resistance training as your primary activity, supplemented by cardio where needed. And most importantly a well calculated nutrition programme to make sure you get real results.
