Is this food good or bad? Some foods are “better” at keeping you in a calorie deficit. Some foods are more difficult to overeat. Some foods are higher in protein relative to the amount of calories they have allowing you to feel more full on fewer calories. Some foods are higher in volume allowing you to feel like you’re eating more or fill your stomach more on fewer calories. On the other hand some foods are much easier to overeat. Some foods won’t fill you up that much even though they may deliver a significant amount of calories. At the end of the day no foods are “good” or “bad” but some make more sense to include more of in your diet while with others it makes more sense to include less. Rather than asking if something is good or bad ask: How does this fit into the overall context of my diet? Because… When you’re eating mostly whole nutrient-dense foods eating an appropriate amount of calories for your goal getting sufficient protein and are making the progress that you want to make some pizza or Ben and Jerry’s could totally make sense for you if that helps you keep your cravings in check and allows your eating strategy to be sustainable. And on the other hand you could eat all the “healthy food” in the world but if you’re not in a calorie deficit you won’t lose fat. Context is everything. Drop your food questions below!
